FAQs — ADHD Coach WA
About Coaching
Do I need a formal ADHD diagnosis to start?
No. Many clients start before or during assessment. Coaching focuses on how your brain works and practical tools that fit you.
Who do you work with?
- Adults (online): focus, time, follow-through, work–life balance.
- Teens 12+ (Perth, in person): study structure, routines, confidence, emotional tools. Parents are involved as supports.
- Parents (children 7+): calm routines, co-regulation, collaboration at home and school.
How is coaching different from therapy?
Therapy explores past experiences and healing; coaching is future-focused and action-based—building systems, skills, and habits you can use now.
How We Work Together
Is there a contract?
No. It’s not a contract—it’s a mutual 3-month agreement (about 6–8 sessions) so we have enough time to test strategies, adjust, and see real change.
How often and how long are sessions?
- Intake: 60 minutes.
- Adults & Parents (ongoing): 45 minutes, usually fortnightly.
- Teens: 30–45 minutes, weekly or fortnightly (decided at intake).
We’ll keep it flexible to your needs.
What happens in the free Discovery Call?
A 20–30 min chat to understand your goals, answer questions, and confirm we’re the right fit—no pressure.
Credentials & Standards
Are you accredited? What does “ICF ACC” mean?
Yes—Shavleen is an ICF-credentialed ACC coach (Associate Certified Coach). The International Coaching Federation (ICF) sets global standards for coach education, ethics, and competencies. ACC shows you’re working with a coach who has formal training, assessed practice, and adheres to the ICF Code of Ethics and Core Competencies.
JobAccess (Workplace Funding)
Can coaching be funded for work?
Yes—many workers with ADHD qualify for the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF) via JobAccess. The EAF can reimburse workplace supports (including specialist coaching) to help you do your job effectively—employees, people starting work, and self-employed may be eligible. jobaccess.gov.au
Do you help with the application?
Yes—I can guide your EAF application (framing workplace challenges, outlining coaching goals, and providing documentation) and coordinate with JobAccess advisors if needed. (Public info and coach guides indicate ADHD coaching is commonly supported under EAF “specialist support” allocations.)
